Last seen in our reprint and discussion of ”Hercules,” the powerful hero of the ancient world, Hercules, returns to team-up with Captain Fantastic in one of EL’s earliest crossovers. Presented as amiable contemporaries — their secret identities are apparently already friends, so the super-powered alter egos have no problem accepting each other — this issue reveals the jovial camaraderie inherent in crime busting, or in this case stopping a vicious animal from marauding human settlements. It’s just the sort of positive message that EL was attempting to go with, in contrast to the angst-ridden mainstream superhero comics, who, by whittling down their heroes to human stature, were, in the eyes of the EL creators, diminishing the importance of their lives’ callings.
